Job Description:
Abstracting Specialist, Hematology Oncology, Seattle, WA
Part-time, 32 hours per week Monday-ThursdayThe
Abstracting Specialist extracts accurate and complete
information from the cancer patient's chart, analyzes
and codes information, and enters it into the Oncology
database for use in various studies, reports, and
submission to the State.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Abstract, interpret and analyze cancer related
information from patient charts
- Codes abstracted information using chart
information and reference material
- Enter coded information into the Oncology
database
- On an as needed basis, assist in coordinating
Tumor Board meetings, respond to requests for cancer
related information, train Cancer Registry Clerks
and assist in studies or information requests
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Health Information
Management or a healthcare-related field (e.g.,
biology) or equivalent
- Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) required within
one year of hire
- CTR+experience
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology,
anatomy and physiology
- Working knowledge of all oncology staging and
coding schemes
- Strong computer literacy and keyboarding skills
- Ability to work independently
- Strong aptitude for detail
- Excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years experience in a Tumor Registry or
health information management capacity
- Experience with/involvement in an American
College of Surgeons accreditation survey
